John "Knuckles" Connolly is a rugby union coach and the former head coach of the Wallabies. Connolly has in the past worked with the Queensland Reds, Stade Francois, Swansea RFC as well as Bath Rugby.

As a rugby player, Connolly played hooker for the Brothers club in Brisbane. From 1980 through to 1982, Connolly acted as a player and a coach for a rugby team in Darwin. His first major coaching position was with the Brothers club in Brisbane in 1983, acting as the reserve grade coach for three years, taking the team to two premierships. Subsequent roles came to him as he was appointed as the Under 19s and Under 21s Queensland rugby union coach. In 1989, Connolly took up a coaching position within the Queensland Rugby team. In 1991, Connolly served as an Australian selector. During his time with Queensland, the side won the Super Six in 1992 and the Super 10 Championship in 1994 and 1995.

I woke up in the middle of the night and i started to sob. I had been dreaming of my four year old. He was in hospital, he was about to undergo a painfull procedure and i was holding his hand. He told me " I'm scared mummy,please don't leave me." I told him " I will never leave you Jared,,Ever. I promise." I knew in my heart that he was going to die, but that i had to be brave for him til the end. Then i woke up terrified, lonely and disturbed. I stared at my boy for hours and put my hand on him while he slept. I didn't go back to sleep that night. I got up that morning and knew i had to try to help someone going through a real life nightmare. I don't have much money to give, but i do have my hair. If i can sacrafice my hair, and alittle of my self esteme, can you please sponsor me and help me raise some money to make someone elses nightmare less terrifying, less lonely.....

Mission to Care

Leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma can develop in anyone, of any age, at any time. Often with little warning and in acute cases, may require treatment within 24 hours of diagnosis. It turns lives upside down overnight.

Families from rural or regional Australia often need to quickly relocate to major cities to be closer to treatment centres. This is usually for extended periods of time.

Relocation is particularly traumatic as it often occurs after diagnosis, resulting in patients and families adjusting to their new circumstances without the benefit of established local support networks.

Combined with costly medical bills and loss of income, many families find themselves in financially crippling circumstances whilst coping with the shock and emotional turmoil associated with the diagnosis.

On average, treatment of haematological cancers lasts for eight months but can continue for years.
